Case Study: Perseus Mining Ltd

Perseus Mining Ltd operates three gold mines located in West Africa. Their flagship mine, the Edikan Mine, has produced over 1.8 million ounces of gold since September 2011.

Perseus became a multi-mine, multi-jurisdiction gold producer in January 2018, when they opened their second mine, the Sissingué Gold Mine. Perseus recently started producing at their third site, the Yaouré Gold Mine in December of 2020. Very rapidly, Perseus developed a sustainable gold business in West Africa.

Now, Perseus Mining  is planning to progressively increase gold production to more than 500,000 ounces per annum by 2022.

Edikan Mine

Edikan was Perseus’ first mining operation commencing commercial production in January 2012. The mine is in the Central Region of Ghana, within the Ashanti Gold Belt. Gold ore is sourced from several open pits and processed through a centralised processing facility with capacity to process up to 8 million tonnes of ore per annum.

Sissingué Mine

Sissingué became Perseus’ second gold mine in January 2018. Sissingué is located in the north of Côte d’Ivoire near the border of Mali, commercial capital of Abidjan. High grade gold ore is sourced from one main open pit and several smaller satellite open pits and processed through a conventional 1.4 million tonnes per annum CIL processing facility.

Yaouré Mine
Yaouré Gold Mine, in central Côte d’Ivoire, poured first gold in December 2020, becoming Perseus’s third operation. Yaouré is expected to produce more than 200,000oz gold per year over the first five years of its mine life.
Head Office
The corporate team at Perseus Mining had a vision to easily access key metrics from each of their mine sites, and uncomplicated way to track and analyze production, productivity, environmental and safety metrics.
Goals

As the business grew, so did the amount of data being collected, resulting in the use of complex spread-sheet-based processes. The leadership team understood that as the company continued to grow, they would require sustainable, scalable processes in order to be a highly functioning, streamlined business that could react quickly and make effective decisions. The project goals were identified as:

Sustainable data collection
Fast & accurate reporting
Visibility of the entire business

Outcomes

After Centric’s implementation at Perseus’ mine sites, operators are easily able to enter data directly into one system and access metrics that are key to their role. This empowered employees to use their time more efficiently and create sustainable workflows. Having this stream of information connected across all three mine sites and Perseus’ corporate office provides the timely insights and verifiable reports that decision-makers rely on to make informed decisions with confidence.

Centric-Mining-Systems
Outcomes

While the focus was initially on geology, mining, and processing metrics, Perseus has taken advantage of Centric’s potential to incorporate additional metrics – giving themimmediate access to information, and helping to identify, analyze, and implement changes. These include:

Rehabilitation Costs
Weather Monitoring
Noise Levels

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

Our main goal with Centric is to maximize its use and expand what we’re doing into more fields of our business. I always say that Centric is like a toolbox – we incorporate as much functionality as possible into it. The longer you use it, the more you realize how powerful the advanced functionalities are.
